does thursday's attack on parliament prove that our counter-terror policy has been a total failure? india's anti-terror policy is in tatters. in fact, this government has never had an anti-terror policy. when the bjp came to power, the prime minister and the home minister promised to solve the problem of pak-backed terrorism in a chutki (in no time).
and see where we are today. just a few days ago, the pm and the home minister had spoken about the possibility of an attack on parliament. there were also reports that the residences of the pm, the home minister and the defence minister could also be attacked. why didn't the government do anything? it should be held accountable for the lapse and made to pay for it. this government is a colossal failure. but for the bravery of our security men, our parliament and mps would have been dead by now. are we a soft target for terrorism? yes, that is what the suicide attacks on the j&k assembly and parliament show. terrorists are holding this nation to ransom. this is a government of paper tigers. they are hawkish only in statements, not in deeds. when they exploded the nuclear devices in 1998, every bjp leader breathed fire. they talked about 'hot-pursuit'. now the same people are talking about aar paar ki ladai. please stop fooling the nation. how outrageous that when the nation is burning, these people are speaking about building a temple in ayodhya! what then is the antidote to terror? we have all along advocated the destruction of terrorist training camps in pok, even though our political rivals opposed us. we advocated this course of action when the terrorists attacked the amarnath yatra two years ago. we advocated this line of action when kargil happened. we advocated the same response when the militants attacked the red fort. farooq and i advocated this action after the suicide attack on the j&k assembly. instead, the sangh parivar targets the muslims in kanpur, lucknow and ghazipur. they attack nadwa and aligarh muslim university. they will never lose an opportunity to blemish the muslims who threw their lot with this country in 1947. in 1999, when the ia plane was hijacked, the government brought humiliation upon india by capitulating to terrorists' demand and releasing masood azhar, now masterminding anti-india attacks. if we imitate us and israel in so many areas, why not imitate them in destroying terrorist camps? how far will poto be effective? poto will not help. it is the bjp's ploy to fight political opponents, not terrorists. sophisticated weapons and highly-motivated security forces alone can do the job. let us hope vajpayee and advani have learnt a lesson from the attack on parliament.
